Mangroves essential for fish

Some people hate mangroves and destroy them, but their issue with them should not be about aesthetics.

It is a fact that mangrove flats are essential as fish and prawn nurseries as well as maintaining a healthy marine environment.

So, if you eat prawns and fish, or just like to see fish swimming around, mangroves are important.

Already man's ignorance and greed have destroyed 50 percent of the world's fish stocks.

And the Southern Ocean which was once teeming with fish, whales and seals, has virtually none.

Man has slaughtered just about the lot, a sorry history of exploit to extinction.

The only bright spots are those few who have made efforts to save what little is left.
