Labor MPs call for NRL team
Member for Peats Ms Marie Andrews is working with other Labor MPs to call on the National Rugby League to accept a Central Coast team for the 2006 competition.
Minister for Gaming and Racing and The Entrance MP, Mr Grant McBride, moved an urgency motion in NSW Parliament on May 11 which was supported by Ms Andrews, and other local Members, Mr Milton Orkopoulos and Mr Paul Crittenden.
The bid also has the backing of Premier Bob Carr and Minister for the Central Coast, Mr John Della Bosca.
Ms Andrews said that the purpose-built Central Coast Stadium strengthened the case for a local team.
''Central Coast Stadium is widely regarded as one of the best rugby league stadiums in Australia.
"It has consistently attracted crowds of close to 20,000 for events such as the Rugby World Cup,'' Ms Andrews said.
The NRL has been urged to make an announcement regarding the team soon.
