Focussing on end of school
Year 12 students at the Brisbane Water Secondary College senior campus recently took part in a Keeping the Focus morning, less than 80 days before the end of the school year.
Students heard about career opportunities and the requirements for entry to university and TAFE courses at a presentation by college careers advisers, Mr Williamson and Mr Harwood.
Past students of the senior campus spoke including Peter Moore who was dux at Woy Woy in 2002.
Peter is now successfully completing a degree course at Macquarie University.
He talked to students about his approach to the HSC and life at university.
Other past students included Stuart McMinn and Jarrod Moore who completed their HSC in 2003. Both students also gained entry to university, with Jarrod choosing to defer his studies for a while.
In the other session, campus principal Mr David Beattie guided students through a process of reviewing their progress to date as well as providing them with activities and ideas on how to write essays and approach the HSC.
"Year 12 students all spoke very highly and positively about the Keep the Focus activity," Mr Beattie said.
"Many said that it motivated them to study and achieve and that they particularly enjoyed what the past students had to say.
"The message about keeping the focus on the HSC and doing your best was successfully reinforced to all students," he said.
