Solid rugby win

Woy Woy Rugby Union Club's first grade team has moved into the four with a solid win against Northlakes.

After a soul searching loss against Terrigal the week prior, the Seconds suffered their first loss against Northlakes.

The Thirds are still undefeated.

In the first grade game against Terrigal, Woy Woy led early then got behind at half-time 17-13 after a try scored on the stroke of half time.

Woy Woy scored right after half time to take a 18-17 lead.

The team stopped for 20 minutes while Terrigal ran in four unanswered tries, but Terrigal's kicker missed all conversions.

Woy Woy fought back with two late tries to grab a bonus point but lost the game 47-30.

Best for the Lions were Greg Kenney, Steve Lauti, Dave Henricks and Justin Allan.

Woy Woy ventured up to Northlakes on Saturday, May 8. Woy Woy were at number seven on the ladder Northlakes at number three.

Woy Woy withstood a torrid of attack from Lakes and scored a try to lead 17-0 at the break.

They went on with it in the second half to record a 33-12 win, a much needed win against a side higher than them on the table and one that pushed Woy Woy into the number four spot.

Best for The Lions were Justin Allan, Ricky 'Trangie' Parsell and Peter Wright.

"The forwards all played well with Dave Plunkett adding some spice to the pack and was dominant in the lineout," said coach Ross Hopkins

"The front row dominated their opposition and again was strong."

The second grade won well against Terrigal 29-14 with David Brown, Chris Chappell, John Baxter and Lani Alipate dominating in a well-drilled side.

"Unfortunately the seconds lost 19-17 against Northlakes in a scrappy game and lost top spot on the ladder," he said,

Best in a beaten side were Vince Alipate, Danny May and Christian Hobbs.

The third grade team had solid wins against Terrigal 17-10 and 24-0 against Northlakes.

"Against Terrigal, Craig Follett had a blinder, followed by a strong game by Michael Markham,Geoff Beale and Peter Harlum," Mr Hopkins said.

"Against Northlakes, Michael Markham again shone with a tough performance.

"Slug Hopley back in a Lions jersey played well and Chris Lewis stood out with a controlled game from flyhalf."

With a third of the season now completed, the match against Ourimbah is expected to be competitive in all grades. Thirds kickoff 12.30pm, Seconds 1.40pm, Firsts 3pm.
