Albert Quilkey honoured
Woy Woy businessman Mr Albert Quilkey has been awarded a special community service award by the Rotary Club of Umina Beach, honouring his commitment to the Peninsula.
Over 100 people were at Umina Rotary's recent Ladies Night meeting to see Mr Quilkey recognised for his role as chairman of the Woy Woy Community Aged Care and his involvement since its inception.
Mr Quilkey and his family moved to the Central Coast in 1964 and since then he has been actively involved in Woy Woy Rotary serving as president, secretary and treasurer over a number of years.
Once Albert retired from business, through Rotary he began his association with Woy Woy Community Aged Care where he became a member of the company.
Mr Quilkey became a director in 1992 and then chairman in 1995 and still holds that position.
Albert served for more than 20 years as a Rotarian and is a Paul Harris Fellow.
"Albert Quilkey is a family man. He and his wife Margaret have raised five children.
"He is also a successful businessman but has still found time to contribute to the community and help others," said Umina Rotary publicity officer Mr Geoff Melville.
"Albert is a quiet achiever who has made an enormous contribution to this organisation personally and financially," Mr Melville said.
"The success of our hostel project is substantially attributed to Albert's knowledge of building.
"Albert can be called upon to assist at any time and does so willingly.
"As chairman of the board, his primary concern is the needs of our residents.
"His leadership qualities have contributed to the success of this organisation.
"This nomination is an opportunity to acknowledge the work of this generous man," he said.
