Walking bus at Umina
The Walking School Bus will be coming to Umina Public School from Friday, May 21.
This new transport method is a group of students who walk to school supervised by adult volunteers.
The walking school bus walks along an agreed route to school and it stops to pick up children participants at set bus stops along the way and drops at school.
Central Coast Community Environment Network publicity officer Ms Rachael Gleeson said the walking bus aimed to reduce traffic congestion around primary schools and increase the fitness and safety of school children.
The launch of the bus at Umina will be celebrated with a small luncheon for participating students, parents, supporting organisations and persons at Umina Public School.
Following the luncheon there will be a school assembly where Umina School principal Mr John Blair will be making an announcement about the Walking School Bus and the current students and volunteers of the Walking School Bus will receive awards.
