Lagoon project funded
The Everglades Lagoon System is to benefit from $20,000 funding from the NSW Government for environmental projects in Brisbane Water.
Member for Peats Ms Marie Andrews said: "Gosford Council will use the funds to prepare a management plan for the Everglades Wetland at Woy Woy.
"This funding will assist Gosford Council to continue its important work in protecting and preserving this valuable and sensitive waterway for the future."
The Everglades lagoon system consists of seven inter-connected water bodies that drain into Correa Bay in Brisbane Water.
The area has been listed as an endangered ecological community under the Threatened Species Act 1995.
Gosford Council has been working with the Everglades Country Club and the Melaleuca Wetlands bushcare group to protect the wetland.
It will use the $20,000 to prepare a management plan for the lagoon system, to identify restoration options and to enhance the wetland at the same time helping the continued operation of the golf course.
The funding is allocated under the NSW Government's Estuary Management Program.
"The program aims to protect the environmental well-being of the State's estuaries by ensuring the sustainable use of estuaries, coastal lakes and associated tidal wetlands through environmental improvement and balanced management," Ms Andrews said.
The funding was provided on a dollar-for-dollar basis, matched by Gosford Council.
