Information shelter is officially opened
The new information shelter for Blackwall Mountain Reserve was officially opened on January 21.
The shelter provides an information display about the ongoing community conservation project within the reserve from 1998.
The display describes the native vegetation regeneration undertaken by the Blackwall Mountain Bushcare Group and displays environmental information compiled by the group about the reserve.
The information includes history of the area from past shipbuilding and logging to present-day features including its habitat values and isolated fauna species within the reserve.
"The shelter will help address broader community environmental awareness and reflect the important role the community will play in the future," said group coordinator Mr Tony Whitehead.
Cr Lynne Bockholt officially opened the new shelter and was presented with the Bushcare group's new management plan, entitled a Community Conservation and Native Vegetation Regeneration Management Plan.
Mr Whitehead said Cr Bockhoft was instrumental in organizing the new shelter for Blackwall Mountain, through Gosford Council's Bushcare program.
The management plan was printed through the Central Coast Community Environment Network (CCCEN) Landcare support project.
"The new management plan is a tribute to the late Mrs Beryl Strom, a respected historian and environmentalist," said Mr Whitehead.
He said a meeting between Peninsula community environmental groups was planned to be held at the Environmental Centre on Blackwall Rd, Woy Woy, in the near future.
Topics to be discussed included objectives for the year, tree preservation and community conservation.
