Residents receive Australia Day awards
Peninsula residents Stephen Cattley and Marlene Casey have received Australia Day awards from Gosford Council.
The awards were presented at a ceremony at Old Sydney Town on January 17.
Marlene Casey won the Service to Seniors award for her work with Woy Woy Day Care, helping seniors with everyday activities and visiting patients in hospital.
She was also nominated for her kindness and generosity.
Marlene works at Woy Woy Day Care but also helps seniors with activities such as shopping, helping with meals, helping elderly people into their homes and onto the bus.
She visits patients in hospital and helps out at Meals on Wheels.
Marlene's husband also helps out with odd jobs such as cleaning gutters for elderly people in the area.
Stephen Cattley was presented the sport award for his involvement in cricket for almost 50 years having been a player, coach and club official.
The award recognised that, from the time he was old enough to play in the under 10s for Woy Woy, he had devoted his life to being an exemplary player, a reliable club official and coach.
He was a member of five premiership-winning teams and has coached many successful junior teams.
In 1971, Woy Woy Cricket Club awarded Stephen life membership, only the second club member to receive this honour.
At this time, he was a high run scorer and wicket taker and also took the time to train junior members.
Stephen is a founding member of the Umina Junior Cricket Club where he was club president for six years.
He remains the gear steward, is a team selector for all grades and still plays the game, captaining Umina's sixth grade team.
In 1988-89, the Umina Cricket Club presented Stephen with the Outstanding Service Award.
