First effort for Rugby League under-14s

Woy Woy high played Umina High School in the second round of the under-14 Buckley Shield knock-out.

"As a Maths teacher, I can confidently say it was a game of two halves," said coach Mr Marker.

The first half was a bruising affair.

The forwards were led by Aaron Bull and Anthony Refalo, who both crossed the line for clever individual tries.

Dean Robertson also threatened the defence every time he was called upon.

The backs were led well by the captain Alex Brown.

The coach said the team put in a good effort, particularly being the first time the boys had played together.

Mr Marker said the commitment of the team could not be questioned.

Woy Woy High went into the break looking the better team although behind two tries to three on the score board.

The second half was dominated by Umina, resulting in Umina winning the game and proceeding to the next round.

Highlights from the second half included Adam Sankey catching a high bomb on his own try line and the discovery of Michael Smith.

Michael managed to demonstrate his excellent ball handling skills, agility and kicking skills, said Mr Marker.

Mr Marker said Woy Woy High School should be proud of the under-14 Rugby League team's first effort together as a team.

"I'm sure, with a little more training together, the boys will be very competitive in the upcoming Rugby League Gala day," Mr Marker said.
