Alan is singles champ

Alan Maier become the new singles champion of Everglades Bowling Club when he defeated Roger Ford in a hard fought match on Sunday, May 27.

Alan twice drew clear only to be caught up each time.

At 14-all, Alan played well to surge ahead 23-14.

Roger proved his tenacity with a strong effort to draw within four shots before Alan called on his experience to claim the match and win 31-20.

This was Alan’s first singles title win at Everglades which emulates the effort of his brother Graham, who won the event in 2000 and is now a premier league bowler at Ettalong.

The Frank Kemp Memorial triples to be staged from July 4-6 at Everglades.

Prize money of $4590 is on offer.

Some spots are still available. The cost is $20 a player.

Lunch will be provided on all three days.

The annual Mother’s Day event brought two full greens, with lunch provided and gifts for the each lady attending.

President Kevin Phelps said it was delightful to see so many ladies and attentive partners on the day.

The weather was kind and greens ran truly and well.

He said he was grateful for the support he received in organising the event and was sure the Ladies Club would "reciprocate with interest" as they usually did when Father’s Day came around.
