Wires to hold fund-raiser

The wildlife rescue service Wires Central Coast will hold a fund-raising gala concert on June 24 at the Tuggerah Lakes Memorial Club.

Around a fifth of Wires' rescues occur in the Peninsula area and currently seven volunteer rescuers live on the Peninsula.

The service is dependent on public donations and fundraising to finance the feeding and care of injured animals.

The gala day will feature a band claiming to be "Australia’s only all-female brass band", The Belles of Brass.

The band has representatives of more than 10 NSW bands and numbers around 30 women and girls with the aim of supporting charities and groups such as Wires Central Coast.

The band is self-funded, donating time and resources.

Tickets are $15 adult and $10 concession and pensioners with afternoon tea included.

The service's work includes monitoring threatened species in this area include koalas, the yellow-bellied glider, quoll, bush stone curlew, superb fruit dove and the regent honeyeater.
