Shave-off raises $1800

The "Big Event Shave Off" took place on May 28 at Empire Bay Public School with pupils and teachers raising over $1800 to assist the Leukaemia Research Foundation.

A further $400 in pledges were received.

A number of teachers, parents and students were shaved, one by one, in front of the school assembly.

Participating were assistant principal Garry Standen, grade3-4 teacher Irmgard Halliday, P&C president Megan Pendrick, canteen supervisor Christine Holland and students Tom Haber, Ian Limm and Andrew Clark.

Garry Standen had his moustache of 27 years shaven off.

Pretty Beach resident Craig McGarrity was also shaved at the school.

He gained sponsorship from the Pretty Beach School community, following the recent death from leukaemia of 12-year-old Ashley Thornleigh of Pretty Beach.

Shauna McNeal was the hairdresser.

Children wore mufti with "crazy" hairstyles on the day and brought a gold coin as a donation for the Leukaemia Foundation.
