Late start no handicap

A late start to cross country running at St John The Baptist School at Woy Woy has not hindered five students who were selected for the inter-diocesan event last week.

Trials for the Broken Bay Diocese Catholic Schools Cross Country planned for first term had been postponed due to the weather and were finally run at the start of second term.

From these trials, 20 children were chosen to go to Fagan Park at Galston, with some children running two kilometres and others three kilometres.

The school had five children chosen to go to Eastern Creek on Friday, June 8, to attend the Inter Diocesan Cross Country.

The children were Alana Ireland, James Stratton, Jasmine Golby, Dean Mackay and Kerry Swan.

The school celebrated Pentecost Sunday on June 3.

After mass, the parents organised a talent quest for the children.

There were 32 acts which included drama, poetry, dancing and singing.

All acts were put together by the children themselves.

The first act was a taste of things to come.

Year 6 student James Witchard performed Jake the Peg with an extra leg, much to the amusement of the students.

The three judges said they had a difficult time deciding on the winners because of the high standard and the variety of the acts.

The awards were given out in three sections.

The winner of the solo act was Year 6 student Simone Menenti who sang "A Castle in the Clouds" from Les Miserables.

Joint winners were declared in the duo section, a drama duo and a dance duo.

They were D Pendelton and G Rochester, and L Robertson and K Russell.

The winners in the group section were Year 6 boys who performed a well-liked hit by the Wiggles.

All winners received a trophy and every act received encouragement awards from McDonalds and Civic Video.
