Pokies for non-smokers

Woy Woy Leagues Club is claiming to have opened the first non-smoking poker machine area on the Peninsula.

The idea was introduced following requests from members and visitors for such an area.

The club’s secretary manager Mr Michael Crieghton said there were existing non-smoking areas within the club, but the new area would provide a non-smoking lounge area, bar service and poker machine facilities.

"The area will be created through the reconfiguration of the air conditioning and the installation of smoke extractors," said Mr Crieghton.

"We are reacting to members' requests and submissions to cater for both smokers and non-smokers within our club."

Mr Crieghton said the smoking and non-smoking sections would not be separated using physical barriers.

"Smokers will not feel ostracised. We are simply catering for both smokers and non-smokers," Mr Crieghton said.

"We welcome any input and feedback from members and guests regarding the new area.

"The club sees it as a step forward," said Mr Crieghton.
