Resident helps secure cardiac services
A Peninsula resident has been instrumental in helping secure cardiac services at Gosford Hospital, according to Member for Peats, Ms Marie Andrews.
Minister for Health, Mr Craig Knowles, has announced that for the first time Gosford Hospital will be providing major cardiac services, she said.
"Some time ago, a Woy Woy Peninsula resident, who has been travelling to the Royal North Shore for treatment of a heart condition, enlisted my support in requesting a similar service be provided at Gosford Hospital," said Ms Andrews.
"The appropriate representations were made to the Minister for Health.
"I was very pleased to be later informed that plans for the redevelopment of Gosford Hospital will include the provision of a cardiac catheterisation unit," Ms Andrews said.
The new service would save many local residents from travelling long distances to either Sydney or Newcastle to receive essential treatment, she said.
Other services to be made available at Gosford Hospital include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and bone marrow transplants.
Major networked services, including neurosurgery, stroke and gynaecological oncology will also be operating out of Gosford Hospital under the new health plan, the Minister announced in State Parliament last Tuesday, June 5.
