Expo theme is 'Experiment with life'
"Experiment with life - not drugs" is the theme of a Youth and Family Drug Expo to be held at Umina PCYC on June 24.
The expo is being organised by the Peninsula Community Drug Action Team as part of Drug Action Week.
Team chairman Pastor John McCaskie said the aim was to increase awareness and educate communities about issues related to drug and alcohol use and abuse.
The expo to be held at the Umina PCYC from 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday, June 24, and will include a range of activities including bands, skateboard demonstrations and other activities.
The team has also arranged for the movie "Traffic" to be screened at the Cinema Paradiso on Monday, June 25, at 7.30pm with entry being a gold coin donation.
At the conclusion of the movie, a specialist in the field of Drug and Alcohol will answer questions from the audience.
Community drug action teams (CDATs) are being established across NSW as a result of a key recommendation of the NSW Drug Summit held in May 1999.
Pastor McCaskie said CDAT activities will aim to bring communities together to deal with the causes and effects of drug use, to support families and individuals and to bring communities together.
"The community of the Peninsula has clearly indicated its willingness to embrace a more cohesive, understanding and supportive community," he said.
"The Peninsula CDAT is an initiative that everyone can participate in."
