Catering team raises $4600 for youth mental health
The catering team at a Umina aged care facility has raised $4593.85 to support youth mental health.
The team at Peninsula Village took part in Laps for Life throughout March to raise money for Reach Out, an organisation providing mental health services to young Australians..
Some team members are swam laps, totalling 122.3km, while others gave donations and encouragement.
The amount raised far outstripped their initial target of $1000.
The team was led by cook Ms Kara Denning, who has a personal connection to the cause.
"Mental health challenges can affect anyone, and sadly, it has touched my life in a profound way," she said.
"This cause is close to my heart, and I'm incredibly grateful to my team members who have joined me in this effort."
More than one in three young people experience a mental health difficulty, she said.
Peninsula Villages chief executive Mr Colin Osborne said: "We are incredibly impressed by the catering team's initiative and their commitment to making a positive impact on youth mental health."
