Umina lifesavers show they are champions
Umina Surf Lifesaving Club competed successfully in the Champion Lifesaver event at the 2024 NSW Lifesaving Championships held at Freshwater.
The event provided individual members with the opportunity to demonstrate in a competitive environment the physical, lifesaving and knowledge skills required of a lifesaver.
The event was determined on a point score basis with the competitor scoring the highest points declared the winner.
The events covered were resuscitation, theory, surf race, board race, beach sprint and tube race.
Kerry Armstrong-Smith came first in 50+ female section.
Three Umina members came second in their sections.
They were Marli Hoyland U14 female, Lily James U15 female and Shelley Smith 40-49 female.
Three members came third.
They were India Darwin U14 female, Timon Adamec U14 male and Damon Somerfield 40-49 male.
Two Umina members came fourth: Luke Ingold 40-49 male and Archie Rayner U19 male.
Matilda Lawrence came seventh in the U17 female section.
Five of these competitors will accept a position on the limited entries list to represent Umina in Champion Lifesaver at a national level.
