Tesch to co-chair 'MP Friends of Olympics' group
Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch is to co-chair a "NSW Parliamentary Friends" group for the Olympic and Paralympic Movements.
Ms Tesch who is Parliamentary Secretary for Disability Inclusion will co-chair the group with Shadow Minister for Sport Ms Eleni Petinos.
"As a former Paralympian and now a member of Parliament, it was fabulous to join so many of my colleagues to celebrate the inaugural meeting of the Parliamentary Friends of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements in New South Wales," she said.
"Our first function was a great opportunity for parliamentarians, athletes, and representatives from sporting bodies from across New South Wales to celebrate our wonderful athletes and wish them well on their journey to Paris," she said.
The bi-partisan group was launched at Parliament House in Sydney on Tuesday, March 19.
More than 130 guests, including members of Parliament, joined Australian Olympic Committee chief executive Mr Matt Carroll, Paralympics Australia president Ms Alison Creagh, Olympians, Paralympians.
The aims of the group include encouraging participation in sport, promoting the fundamental principles and values of Olympic and Paralympic movements, promoting the practice of sport as a human right without discrimination of any kind, and to support to the issue of indigenous reconciliation through sport.
The group already has 50 parliamentarians as members.
