Robotics to be taught at primary school

Woy Woy Public School has introduced classes involving robotics and coding this term as part of the school's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics offerings.

"This term Woy Woy Public School has begun new classes as these are skills our students will be using in their future work lives," said principal Ms Ona Buckley.

Through the Department of Education, the school has been able to secure a number of introductory and child friendly robotics, programming and coding resources, including: sets of Ozobot Robots, EV3 Lego Mindstorm robotic and programming kits, Makey Makey electronic design kits and Micro:bit kits.

Students will have access to all of these resources throughout Term 1.

"Students have been learning about coding and programming with these kits and students are making more complex coding choices as they program their robots to race, turn and undergo a series of actions.

"Teaching staff have also been developing their skills and undergoing Professional Development both in school and online.

"As technology improves, it is important for staff to make sure they are keeping up with technological improvements in science and technology," Ms Buckley said.
