Another fire at community garden
The Woy Woy Peninsula Community Garden has suffered another arson attack and theft of some of its fruiting plants.
The community garden has been subject to a number of small arson attacks since last October, which culminated in the destruction of its garden shed in January, according to garden co-ordinator Ms Jill Meredith.
The fire in January damaged gardening tools, water tanks, seed banks, educational resources and other equipment used by volunteers.
The latest arson attack occurred on March 9, destroying a section of the garden itself.
"We have had another fire and we also discovered some of our fruiting plants had been damaged and others stolen," Ms Meredith said.
The Peninsula Environment Group which manages the garden has launched a campaign to raise $20,000 to buy a new garden shed and security fencing.
By March 21 the group had raised $4140.
"We really hope the community will give generously, however big or small, to help the garden rebuild," Ms Meredith said.
