Fishing club closes after 30 years

The Pelicans Fishing Club has closed after almost 30 years.

The club held a farewell function at Everglades Country Club on March 9.

The club operated from its fishing shed on land owned by the Woy Woy Sporties Bowling Club for all of its 30 years.

The fishing club was given notice to vacate, so the bowling club could put the land upon which the fishing shed stood to another purpose.

"It was a sad day for all concerned after so much water has flowed under the bridge and there was plenty of talk about the fish that got away," said fishing club life member Mr Ken Dixon.

"We had two surprise visitors in Labor's candidate for the Federal seat of Robertson Ms Anne Charlton, and Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch.

"It was a terrific night for all of our long term supporters," Mr Dixon said.
