Court opens for Law Fair

A Law Fair will be held at Woy Woy Courthouse on Wednesday, May 19, as part of National Law Week.

Residents are invited to an Open Day at the courthouse where a range of government and justice agencies will be present.

The Attorney-General's Department will be running a series of workshops in the courtroom involving speakers from a range of court users and community groups related to the court.

It will be one of 14 Law Week Fairs held across the state for National Law Week, and the only law week event on the Central Coast.

Law Week aims to promote community understanding of the law and the legal system, and improve the public's access to legal services.

NSW Attorney General Mr Bob Debus said the week would also promote alternatives to the legal system.

"I'd encourage people to visit the highly successful Community Justice Centres with their mediation and conflict management programs," he said.

"This alternative to the court system avoids the adversarial environments and the heavy costs associated with court-handled disputes.

'We're particularly keen to the see that the disadvantaged in our community have access to justice," Mr Debus said.

Woy Woy Courthouse is in Blackwall Rd, Woy Woy
