Aboriginal study centre starts

The Mingaletta Study Centre commenced on Monday, July 28, at Brisbane Water Secondary College (BWSC) Umina campus library.

The centre will be open from 3pm until 5pm and afternoon tea has been provided.

Indigenous and non-indigenous students are welcome.

Those requiring further information can contact Ray McMinn at the office of either campus or phone 0409 694 575

The Koori students from both BWSC campuses entered paintings for the Darkinjung Community Standing Strong Art Exhibition held at Gosford Regional Gallery.

The students who created the paintings under the guidance of visual arts head teacher Susanne Matthews were Chantelle Dunkley, Sophie Wills, Stephanie Matthews and Toni Pinney.

A NAIDOC celebration was held at Kariong during the term break.

The celebration was organised by Central Coast Area Health.

More than 1000 people attended to recognise the community awards.

This years NAIDOC'S theme is "Our Children, Our Future."

Students from BWSC were asked to host the day's proceedings.

The student's were Stacey and Mitchell Markham, Sarah and Rebecca Hardcastle, Justin McMinn, and the school captain Stuart McMinn was the Master of Ceremonies for the day.

The Nunyara Health Unit at Gosford Hospital held their annual flag-raising ceremony at the hospital during NAIDOC week.

BWSC students were well represented: Mitchell Markham and Justin McMinn played the didgeridoo and Stuart McMinn spoke on "Being an Aboriginal Youth Today".
