Judo club takes medals at Seven Hills

Woy Woy Judo Club took 16 of its members to compete at Seven Hills High School in the NSW RSL Tournament on July 27.

Seven players in the under 10 year olds achieved three gold, three silver and two bronze.

First-time competitor Caitlin Grosse, 7, in the under 26kg novice division took silver, then went on in the mixed division against boys and won the bronze.

Five players in the under 13 years also did well with Daniel Rowe in his first competition, after three fights taking gold.

In the under-16 division, Jolin Richardson won silver and Justin Steward a bronze. Samantha Travers in the Junior Women's took gold in the over 60kg and silver in the under 63kg.

The most outstanding player on the day was 14-year-old Jacqui Steward who took a silver medal in the under-16s under 63kg, bronze in the under 66kg and bronze in under 76kg.

She then went into the Junior Women's for a trial in the under 63kg, taking bronze, followed by a bronze medal in a special division of over 60kg.

In total Jacqui had 11 fights, the most in a one-day competition.

On the same day, senior brown belt Drew Evans attended the University Games at Western Sydney University.

Drew competed in the men's under 73kg division, after seven fights he was awarded a bronze medal.

Current club membership has reached capacity and enrolment books are closed until further notice.
