Students demonstrate computer skills

Students from Pretty Beach Public School demonstrated computer skills when they participated in the recent Australasian Schools Computer Skills Competition.

The best achievement came from four students who received distinction awards.

Other schools to do well included Ettalong Public School, where students received one distinction and four credits.

At Woy Woy Public School, Joshua Newans and Aaron Flynn received distinctions.

Julian Green received a credit and Amy Vanezi, Tegan Miller, Scott Leslie, James Kennedy, Renee Hart, and Ben Tancred received participation awards.

The competition included tasks which assessed students' skills in using operating systems, common software, the internet, understanding networks, and programming and system analysis.

This year, the competition attracted over 105 000 students from across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific region.

The Australasian Schools Computer Skills Competition is an initiative of the Educational Testing Centre (ETC) of the University of New South Wales.

"The Competition is an excellent independent assessment of students' computer skills," said Dr Alan Bowen-James, General Manager of ETC.

"Schools and students also receive detailed diagnostic feedback from the Competition.

"All students are to be congratulated on their outstanding efforts."
