Carly receives gold award
Carly Martin of Bensville has received a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award from NSW Governor Professor Marie Bashir on August 9.
Carly was the only Peninsula area resident among the 91 recipients from NSW to receive the gold award.
Her award was for service to Surf Life Saving Central Coast for her duties in surf and rescue patrols.
She is in the McMasters Beach Surf Club women's surf boat crew, the Rescue and Resuscitation squad, and holds an Advanced Resuscitation Certificate.
Carly is also involved in rugby union at Kincumber High School and has been on the North Sydney region combined high schools team for the last three years, last year as captain.
Every year Carly has been on the northern region team, they have been victorious in the inter-district competition.
She has also been on the NSW combined high schools state rugby union side for the last two years.
Another activity which she undertook for the award was a five-day camp at Wollemi National Park in the Blue Mountains where she was involved in the removal of a weed species called "tree of heaven".
Other activities on the same camp included canyoning, trekking, and abseiling.
Another award activity was a bush leadership camp, where the candidates for the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award led the less advanced silver and bronze candidates.
