Seniors awarded recognition for service to the community
Five peninsula residents were presented with Commonwealth Recognition Awards for Senior Australians at a ceremony at Gosford City Council chambers last month.
Member for Robertson, Mr Lloyd, said the awards were prestigious and recognised outstanding contributions made to our community.
Among the winners was Mrs Joyce Allan for her initiative and on-going dedication to provide a nursing home at Woy Woy.
Mr Bill Hall was awarded for his "outstanding contribution to -the welfare of everyone he has met" while holding positions with various ex-servicemen's and women's organisations.
Mr Hall served in the army in the Middle East, Syria and New Guinea during WW II.
Mrs Jean Wilson was honoured for her 30 years involvement with the Woy Woy Meals on Wheels.
Mrs Nancy Winifred Parker received her recognition for her many years spent with organisations such as the Scouts, Brownies, Girl Guides, Lifeline, Red Cross and St Vincents Hospital.
Mr Eric Smith was also awarded a certificate and he is currently the coordinator and publicity officer for the Central Coast branch of Technical Aid for the Disabled.
He has worked for many years supervising a group of up to 30 volunteers for the projects undertaken by the group.
Mr Lloyd said Mr Smith had dedicated his whole retirement to helping others.
