Multicultural festival to raise cancer funds

Peninsula residents are invited to attend the Greek Australian Festival next month to help raise funds for the Cancer Care Centre at Gosford Hospital.

The 12-hour festival will be held at Mt Penang on Sunday, February 27 and starts at 10am.

Much of the entertainment encompasses many different cultures.

The day will include The Olympians musicians from Sydney, dancers from an Aboriginal group, parading of traditional costumes from all over Greece, Scottish dancers, art exhibitions and belly dancers.

Souvlaki, salads, barbeques, sweets, ice cream and food stalls will be available as well as craft stalls, fireworks and much more.

Greek Australian Association of the Central Coast chairwoman, Ms Georgia Sidiropoulos, said all profits from the day will go towards the Cancer Care Centre.

Central Coast Health is hoping to raise $750,000 this year to improve local cancer services.

"The Greek Australia Festival is being held to raise some of these funds," said Ms Sidiropoulos.

"All community groups are invited to help in any way possible with this special event.

"It's a first in many ways and its success could pave the way for future events." Individuals or groups can hold a stall, donate or sponsor goods and services or volunteer.

For further information contact Ms Sidiropoulos on 43741215.
