Community flocks to see Sights and Sounds
The Sights and Sounds Christmas Pageant held in Woy Woy during December with over 1500 visitors was a great success according to organisers.
Based at St Luke's Anglican Church in Blackwall Road, the event ran for two days and evenings and included a welcoming drink and biscuit for each visitor together with an introductory song and explanation of the show.
Visitors were then treated to a puppet show in the church followed by a "Christmas around the world" mini pageant.
A nativity scene was presented complete with angels, wise men, Joseph, Mary and a real baby playing the most important character of the story.
The event lasted for an hour with several groups going through different parts of the pageant at the same time.
All performers and choirs wore appropriate period costumes.
Work started on the project .in May last year with the help of over 100 volunteers.
The work was co-ordinated by Murray Johnson, Rector of the Anglican Parish and Rosemary Gillham, Parish Assistant.
Support was also provided by Catholic, Baptist, Uniting and Presbyterian Churches in the area as well as the Salvation Army and the Peninsula Christian Life Centre.
Over 1500 adults and children saw the Pageant and many schools arranged poster competitions and other activities surrounding the event.
The event will not take place in the year 2000, with the group working instead on an Easter Pageant for 2001.
