Lana Went went on to Sydney financial world

Winner of the academic section of the Peninsula Youth of the Year awards in 1999, Lana Went, 18, came first in all her HSC subjects at Umina High School in 1998 with a TER score of 99.35 and has moved on to gain employment in a Sydney finance house.

Lana entered Sydney University last year to further her education but left within the first year and took a position with financial company Investec in Sydney.

Lana was doing a five-year combined commerce and law degree but decided that university life was not for her at this stage.

She is contemplating finishing her degree by correspondence where she can take a more flexible approach.

She is training to be a fund manager at Investee and says she currently works about 50 to 60 hours a week.

During her Higher School Certificate, Lana had to ban herself from her passion of golf to ensure her academic success.

She has a handicap of 15, but with long work hours will have trouble practicing to shoot for lower rounds.

''The idea of becoming a golf professional went out the window a few years ago, anyway," she said.
