Arboretum patron dies, aged 93
Patron of the Pearl Beach Crommelin Native Arboretum Ms Carol Serventy OAM has died at the age of 93 on December 12.
Ms Serventy was and wife of conservationist Mr Vincent Serventy who died in 2007.
Mr Serventy had also been patron of the Arboretum.
Arboretum secretary Ms Mary Knaggs said: "While she moved to live with her family in Lismore several years ago, she has been in our thoughts since.
"Carol was a well-respected wildlife conservation expert working with her husband Vincent Serventy on several books.
"She also had a distinguished career in Australia and internationally on museum councils and related organisations."
Ms Serventy was born Caroline to Molly and Bill Darbyshire in Hay St, Perth, and had one brother Tony, according to a death notice published in Sydney.
She married Vincent Serventy in 1955 and had three children, Natasha, Cathy and Matthew.
"Carol had a lifelong passion for museums and was president of the World Federation of Friends of Museums, a councillor of the National Museum, trustee of the Australian Museum, and president of the Australian Museum Society of Friends.
"She was also treasurer and president of The Women's Club, Sydney."
Ms Serventy was said to have loved reading and her garden, spending her later years in Pearl Beach.
"Although living half her life in NSW, her heart remained in many ways in WA.
"She is survived by her children Cathy and Matthew, and her grandchildren Charo, Lachlan, Lucy and Ari."
There is expected to be a memorial service in Pearl Beach to remember her early this year.
She is pictured with Arboretum ecologist Mr Robert Payne in August 2016.
