Brigade visits early learning centre
The Pearl Beach Rural Fire Brigade has "had the pleasure" of visiting Belong Early Learning in Booker Bay just before Christmas.
"Our volunteer firefighters spoke with the children about fire safety, and gave them an opportunity to explore our heavy wildfire tanker."
The brigade spoke about general fire safety, including how to call Triple Zero, the importance of smoke alarms, to "get down low and go, go, go" and get out of the house if there is a fire.
The children explored the fire truck, and asked questions about how it worked, what different colour helmets meant, and how many fires the brigade had been to.
"They were attentive and engaged, and they showed natural talent when we started up the pump and let them have a go operating a fire hose.
"Discussing fires, both in the home and bushfires, is something we encourage all families to do as we come into the traditional fire season.
"Making plans for how you will respond to fires, and communicating those plans with the whole family help everyone to act calmly and effectively when those plans need to be enacted."
