Neglected verges are council responsibility
I seem to have become a "serial whinger" regarding the struggling Central Coast Council.
As a long-time resident of the Peninsula, I am increasingly distressed to see the neglected condition of the roads and the unkempt verges of my neighbourhood, namely Woy Woy.
These issues are council responsibility.
Most disturbing to me is the proliferation of rubbish strewn around the place, which demonstrates the lack of pride and respect for the environment amongst the population.
I suppose this is a societal problem.
When the verges occasionally do get mowed by a team from Council, any litter on it gets chewed up by the mowers and scattered all around.
A worker on the team explained: "We don't get paid to pick up the rubbish".
My main "whinge" concerns the constant appearance of piles of domestic waste, often including large items of furniture and white goods, dumped on the local nature strips.
The authorised collections are meant to be booked for collection on a specific date, and placed out the day prior to collection.
This rule is mostly not observed.
Massive heaps of stuff, sometimes entire home contents are constantly left out in almost every street, any day of the week.
I feel ashamed when I bring visitors to my home, as the surrounding areas look so awful.
Driving between Woy Woy and Kariong on Woy Woy road is particularly embarrassing, as the verges on either side are littered with rubbish, and thick with weeds.
Council ought to be issuing fine notices to households who do not observe the rules for bulk waste collections.
Perhaps if the local tip fees for domestic waste were removed, this problem might be alleviated .
