Community group runs plumbing workshop for women

The Umina Community Group will run a do-it-yourself plumbing workshop for women next Sunday, September 24.

Participants in the workshop will be shown how to change a tap washer and how to stop a leaking cistern.

They will be told what questions to ask a plumber.

It will be hosted by Benchworks U Fix It.

Benchworks founder Ms Jenn Rochford started the project, originally aiming at providing a safe place for women who had experienced domestic violence, but due to popular demand, the workshops are now open to all women.

"Women are often lower income earners, time poor, have less access to resources, are mums and/or single mums," she said.

"They want to feel empowered to fix things themselves around their own homes."

Cost is $5 and spaces are limited.
