Year 6 students return from Canberra visit
Year 6 students from Umina Beach Public School have returned from an activity-packed two-day visit to Canberra.
The students visited Mt Ainsley, the National Gallery and Regatta Point on Tuesday, September 12.
The day included a visit to Parliament House where they saw Prime Minister Mr Anthony Albanese and watched some Senate speeches and voting.
Member for Robertson Dr Gordon Reid, a former Umina student, took time out to talking with students and answer their questions.
After a quick dinner, they then visited the National Dinosaur Museum.
On Wednesday, September 13, they toured embassies, participated in parliamentary role plays, learned about electoral processes and visited old Parliament House.
They orienteered at the National Arboretum and visited the National Art Gallery.
After dinner, they spent two hours at Questacon.
School principal Ms Karen Wardlaw reported the trip involved "82 students, 22 kilometres walked, 356 meals provided, over 20 venues, innumerable loo stops, no students lost, negligible hours of sleep but literally thousands of smiles throughout the last three days".
"Our kids have been marvellous: engaged, well mannered, curious and respectful learners."
