History group to release book
The Ocean Beach-Umina History and Research Group will release a new book chronicling the history of Umina next month.
Principal author Ms Julie Atchison and principal editor Mr Stephen Cummings will launch their new book, Umina the First 50 Years 1914-1964, at the Ocean Beach Surf Club from 10am on March 2.
The work is the culmination of more than eight years of research on the Umina township's colourful history.
"It contains 16 chapters covering everything from real estate, bushfires, floods, the beach, holiday makers and of course the people who first settled the town," said Ms Julie Atchison.
"It is A4 in size, containing 230 pages, 90,000 words and over 300 hundred photos, maps and newspaper plates," she added.
Ms Atchison and Mr Cummings will be available to discuss the book at the event and will also be taking orders.
