Medals for sausages
A Umina butcher has been awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in a sausage competition for the third year in a row.
The awards were contested by about 90 butchers from the Central Coast in the Sausage King Competition, controlled by the Australian Meat and Livestock Corporation.
B&M Quality Meats of Umina won first prize for a Bratwurst sausage.
Father and son proprietors, Bill and Michael Higginson, said they were pleased to have been judged as one of the top three butchers on the Central Coast in each of three categories.
They also won a second prize in the meat innovation section for their Mediterranean lamb rump, and a third prize for their tasty sausage.
Bill said: "This is all Michael's work.
"He should get the credit for it."
They said they were looking forward to the state finals which will be judged at Granville TAFE on November 29.
The father and son team has been trading in Umina for three years and in that time has built up the business to the extent that they have grown from a staff of two to a staff of six.
