Community safety encouraged

Community safety is being encouraged on the Peninsula with a number of events in the area for Community Safety Week.

The week is a part of the Gosford Community Safety initiative by Gosford Council, Brisbane Water police, and Central Coast Health to broaden public awareness of the issues and approaches to community safety at a local level.

Gosford SES will be providing tea and coffee for commuters at Woy Woy station on Tuesday, November 11, from 6am to 8:30am.

Local residents will be able to speak with the Peninsula Project Manager Ms Julie Parsons about community safety issues on the Peninsula on Thursday, November 13.

She will be available for a "cuppa and chat about community safety" in the Peninsula Project Office at the corner of West and Bullion Sts, Umina, from 9am to 4.30pm.

Gosford City Lifeguards will be running Learn to Surf lessons at Umina Beach on Friday, November 14, from 4pm.

The activity is suitable for competent swimmers aged 11 to 16 years.

For information, phone Gosford Council on 4385 8106.

Umina PCYC will run an open day on Saturday, November 15, from 9am.

Members of the public are encouraged to view the facilities, and meet police officers, service providers and volunteers who run the program.

Brisbane Water Local Area Command police will also run bike education workshops.
