Birthday heralds summer without pool
If Gosford Council had not bulldozed the perfectly functional Woy Woy Memorial Olympic Swimming pool this year, it would have been 35 years old this month.
Prime Minister John Gordon officially opened the pool on October 18, 1968.
The popular pool was completed on schedule at of cost of $153,000 after a citizens' committee raised the initial funding for the project.
Peninsula residents and schools now face their first summer since 1968 without a decent public swimming pool, while Gosford Council dithers with its planning.
