Relaxation therapy is on offer

A soft tissue relaxation therapy designed to trigger the body's innate ability to heal itself is being offered commercially in Woy Woy.

Sandra Bailey, an accredited Bowen therapist and member of the Australian Bowen Academy, is now practicing the healing technique at the Gnostic Healing Sanctuary.

The Bowen technique is performed by doing short gentle moves over specific points on muscles and tendons, in a specific order, and then followed by mandatory delays to allow the body to process the information it is receiving.

It is used to relieve stress, acute and chronic pain, inflammation, conditions of congestion, headaches, respiratory difficulties and postural problems.

It is suitable for pregnant women, newborn babies and the elderly.

Bowen addresses physical, emotional and cognitive problems.

"Bowen's innate ability to trigger the body's own healing mechanism to get to the core of the problem is amazing," Sandra said.

"Bowen is excellent for children as they have the ability to heal quickly.

"The advantage of having Bowen treatments when you are younger is that it will lessen the chances of you carrying injuries or emotional trauma through to adult life.

"It also gives older people with problems a new lease of life, " she said.

Tom Bowen, the founder of the modality, discovered that gently manipulating muscles or tendons could relieve a very large variety of complaints, and not just musculo-skeletal, but also organ dysfunction.

Tom Bowen was documented as seeing over 13,000 patients per year and claimed an 88 per cent success rate.

Sandra said the most important feature of Bowen therapy was its ability to treat the whole body, even parts of the body which had not been directly worked on.

Sandra said: "It is a holistic treatment, capable of treating a large range of conditions."
