Dance teams win competition

The two dancing show teams from Woy Woy have competed in Sydney against other private dance schools on Sunday, October 19.

The Performing Arts Challenge at Australia's Wonderland attracted schools from the Central Coast and many Sydney dance schools.

The teams were a junior team consisting of students aged 8 to 10 years and an intermediate team of students aged between 11 and 12 years from the Nicole Classique Academy of Dance of Woy Woy.

Students competed in a mixed section of ballet, modern expressive and modern contemporary in both age groups.

"The teams worked hard towards the event and were greatly rewarded by winning both sections entered, receiving prize money of $600," teacher Nicole Wilkinson said

"The money has already been put to good use and a new child-safe mirror is being fitted to the studio this week, a fantastic and useful prize for all students," she said.

Each child also received a certificate as well as backpack given to the winners by the sponsors of the Performing Arts Challenge.

"The day was not just about dancing, but also a family day where the whole family were able to enjoy the many rides and attractions of the theme park," Nicole said.

"It was lovely to see the children as friends outside the dance studio."
