Winter sleep-out for the homeless
Year nine students from Brisbane Water Secondary College held a winter sleep-out for on August 29 to raise $350 for Mission Australia's homeless program.
The students paid $15 each to for the night, which was organised by the year nine SRC.
Thirty students from the Umina and Woy Woy campuses participated in the event which included various activities and sleeping in the Umina campus gym.
Students were accompanied by 16 members of staff from both campuses.
Some of the staff also slept in the gym while the rest attended the first half of the evening.
Activities undertaken included mini tramp and mat gymnastics, CD music throughout the evening, a DVD movie marathon until dawn, a sausage sizzle and breakfast.
A large trampoline was a bed for several girls and big gym mats were also used as beds.
According to the school newsletter, some students and staff did get some sleep.
"The whole night was a great experience and was the first of many to follow, we hope," it read.
"We didn't have too many people but we didn't need to have many for it to be a success."

Woy Woy campus students attending the event were Ashley Simpson, Zac Dawes, Lauren Muiller, Kirsty Rowan, Lauren Pestell, Sam Cunningham, Jen McWilliams, Lauren James and Alison Smith.
