New recruit wins best and fairest

New recruit to the Woy Woy Swans AFL team, Rocky Helton was awarded Best and Fairest for Reserve Grade in the Black Diamond League during the annual presentation lunch at Swansea RSL on Sunday, September 14.

A group of players, club officials and supporters made the trip up to Swansea RSL to see the award presented.

Rocky joined the Woy Woy Swans early in the season and played his first game in round six. Rocky was previously a basketball player, only taking up AFL recently.

"With his height, he has proven to be a great asset in the ruck," club president Mr Keir McSkimming said.

"Rocky is a real team player always turning up to training, supporting fellow team mates and he more than deserves the award.

"The club committee and team mates are extremely proud of him," Mr McSkimming said.

The Woy Woy Swans have finished for 2003 season.

The 2003 Reserve grade coach was John Spillard.

"A lot of the players showed an improvement in their game this year," Mr Spillard said.

Mr Spillard introduced a few different training sessions this season including beach training, pool sessions at Gosford Pool, and more fitness work.

"It paid off with the Swans putting forward a more competitive team this year," he said.

On Wednesday and Thursday night, the Woy Woy Swans also host a meat raffle at The New Bayview Hotel at Woy Woy.

The Black Diamond League is holding the grand finals on the weekend of September 20-21.

The club's presentation night will be held on the October 11.
