Fireworks attracts 15,000

Organisers has estimated that around 15,000 people attended Peninsula Fireworks and Carnival on New Year's Eve at the Umina Oval.

The family night included rides, entertainment, food and drink outlets and fireworks

Organised by the Rotary Club of Umina Beach, the display of fireworks provided by a Central Coast resident Randall Smith.

The event was alcohol-free and this was strictly enforced by the police and by security staff.

The police reported that it was a well run evening with few problems.

The Rotary Club of Umina Beach, the Umina Beach PCYC and the Salvation Army encouraged those attending to make a gold coin donation.

All money raised by the Rotary Club will be applied to youth projects on the Peninsula.

The major sponsors of the event were Gosford Council, Ocean Beach Holiday Park, Woy Woy Leagues Club, Hourigans IGA Umina, Club Umina, Everglades Country Club, McDonalds Woy Woy, Central Coast Herald & Sun Weekly.

There were also a number of other sponsors whose donations assisted in meeting the expenses in running this event.

The Rotary Club of Umina Beach thanked the sponsors and the people of the Peninsula for their support and the event co-ordinator Mr Colin Gooley
