Andrews encourages card recycling
Member for Peats Ms Marie Andrews is encouraging Peninsula residents to us a free postage-paid envelope available from Australia Post to recycle greeting cards through Planet Ark.
"As in previous years, people can also go to their local Coles supermarket and place their cards in the special in-store Planet Ark recycling bins," said Ms Andrews.
The bins can be used until the end of February.
Traditionally, Christmas cards and decorations in the home come down on January 6, after the 12th day of Christmas, she said.
All types of greeting card will be accepted for recycling at Coles or Australia Post.
"Since 'Cards 4 Planet Ark' was launched over nine years ago, over 430 million greeting cards have been recycled," said Ms Andrews.
"The cards and envelopes are pulped and recycled to make new products."
"Most of the cards and envelopes are turned into Safe brand toilet tissue or Australian recycled cartonboard.
"This cartonboard is used for everyday items like breakfast cereal packs.
"It can be spotted by looking on the pack for a green and yellow ARC recycling symbol," Ms Andrews said.
