Child care to integrate the disabled

Woy Woy Peninsula Community Childcare Co-operative Society is to receive $8325 in State Government funding for a new program.

The program will aim to integrate young children with disabilities into mainstream early childhood settings.

Member for Peats Ms Marie Andrews said the extra assistance would significantly improve access to and promote the integration of children and students with disabilities into educational settings and promote inclusionary practices.

Funding of $75,375 had been allocated to the Peats Electorate as part of the Intervention Support Program (ISP), she said.

The funding would provide education programs for children and young people with disabilities in early childhood centres, residential care facilities and schools.

Ms Andrews said that these funds would improve educational outcomes for children with disabilities by improving their participation and achievement.

The Intervention Support Program is also important for the families of the children as it further promoted access to educational settings, said Ms Andrews.

"These children have special needs and therefore require more educational support than most," Ms Andrews said.
