Thanks to the volunteers
Re. Front page of Peninsula News 11 June, I thank all volunteers for the publication.
We are becoming more selfish today: what do I want, rather than thinking of others.
I have done my share of volunteering work.
I am a life member of St. Huberts Residents Association and give limited donations to charities.
But at 96 years old and living at Peninsula Village nursing home, with limited mobility and no car, I am waiting for God to read my use-by date.
You refer to alcohol-free zones. Our road patrols test more drivers affected by drugs than alcohol.
Should we have drug-free and alcohol-free zones locally?
I agree with Norm Harris. Computers have replaced the public voice.
Computers are programmed to ask questions, not reason. They replace employees but frustrate callers.
Demerge Central Coast Council. It increased the public servants, not reduced them. It is no longer local.
At the government meeting held at Central Coast Leagues Club I moved a motion that the ratepayers should be polled before proceeding. The chairman refused to put the motion to the meeting.
But Noosa Council was de-merged from the Sunshine Merged Council after ratepayers approved by an overwhelming vote.
My son was mayor after the de-merge. It can be done. Put the Local back into Local Government.
I graduated from Sydney University in 1950 with First Class Honours in mechanical and electrical engineering, was born in Sydney, and am disappointed at recent trends.
