Brigade called out for backyard fire

The Pearl Beach fire brigade was called out for a report of a backyard fire in Patonga at 11:15am on Tuesday, June 17.

Unsure of how large the fire was, crews from Empire Bay Rural Fire Brigade and The Bays Rural Fire Brigade were also dispatched.

As Pearl Beach's crew arrived, it was found that a resident was undertaking some landscaping and renovation work, burning off the wood collected from the jobsite.

Being new to the area, they were unaware of the Central Coast Council restrictions which prohibit burning off, even outside of the Bushfire Danger Period.

The additional crews who were not needed and were called off.

The Pearl Beach brigade then worked with the resident to help extinguish the fire, and to provide guidance on how the waste should be disposed of to ensure that they didn't run foul of Council regulations.
